Stay On The Yellow Brick Road

Worn: June 3, 2013
Photographed: September 26, 2013

As I mentioned on their previous appearance, these pumps, with their pointy heels, are not well suited for walking on soft ground, such as that produced by yesterday's rain. The heels may require cleaning almost every time I wear them.

I wore this outfit on the day I saw the movie "Oz, The Great and Powerful". I didn't realize there was any significance to my clothing choice until friends pointed it out to me at dinner that night.

A Rare Appearance of Brown

Worn: June 1, 2013
Photographed: September 24, 2013

I've never been fond of brown, so I hardly ever wear it. In recent years this top has been the most important exception to my general policy of avoidance, as I appreciate the leopard print front and the unusual double snap stretch belt. Alas, looking at this photoset, the top seems to go even more poorly with my new hair than my old, so I may be putting it aside for a while.

You know how a lot of the cheap earrings at malls are sold as "buy one, get one half off"? Usually if I avail myself of that deal, I'll buy two of the same item -- one for earrings and one to make a matching necklace. And so I did with these cute dangling earrings made of filigree leaves, transferring a bunch of leaves to a gold chain. Unfortunately, gold chain and other gold findings at big chain craft stores have been of very low quality ever since the price of gold shot up. The thin layer of gold on the chain in this necklace has worn off across about half its surface after only a few uses. In the future, I'll be buying gold filled findings instead, as they are required by law to be 5% gold by weight.

Working Out That Knot In My Back

Worn: May 20, 2013
Photographed: September 24, 2013

This was the first of my black banded Macy's dresses. I bought it even though I wasn't wearing dresses very often at the time, as I was quite taken with the pattern. I wore it not long after that, struggling to tie a neat bow in the back. Then I ended up riding in a car for a couple of hours, with the knot pressing painfully into my spine the entire time. I set the dress aside as a bad idea and only revisited it recently, when I was evaluating clothes to keep or give away. I altered it the same way I did this one, allowing me to start wearing it again.

A Bit More Fire

Worn: May 13, 2013
Photographed: September 24, 2013

I'm housesitting for my parents this week while they go on vacation. This provides me with an excellent opportunity to catch up on some outfit pictures I missed taking during the hot weather, as I can get in multiple photoshoots in a single day if I'm not driving anywhere to shoot.

This dress, another Macy's black banded special, is the same one I wore here. I managed to buy it and its partner on clearance for four dollars each. They're both strapless, so I always wear them with a cardigan, wrap, or other top, most importantly this one from Sele, which I got very little use out of until I bought the dresses.

In other news, I ended thirty-three years as a natural redhead about four weeks ago when I dyed my hair with henna. I had been hesitating over taking this step for four years, after decades of wanting my hair to be brighter and more vividly red. The new color is not really what I intended; I was hoping for about a third as much change. The dye uptake was surprisingly strong on my virgin hair, but, being henna, there really isn't much recourse in case of regrets. Lynn unreservedly loves it, while my mother doesn't care for it. My father holds with the majority position of not noticing that I changed anything. And my hair, as it always has, just keeps saying, "The Eighties forever!" despite any styling efforts to reduce volume and frizz.
